Text by Francesco Urbano Ragazzi
published on the occasion of the IX Premio Furla per l'Arte
Winner of the ninth edition of the Furla Prize, Chiara Fumai presents I Did not Say or Mean WARNING at the Fondazione Querini Stampalia in conjunction with the 55th Venice Biennial of Visual Arts. The work is accompanied by critical and literary essays by Stefano Collicelli Cagol and Francesco Urbano Ragazzi.
Chiara Fumai’s performative practice is often based on collage, remix and cut-up. Images and voices of oppressed, powerful or rebel women are mashed up in order to create new feminist alliances overcoming the linearity of time. Francesco Urbano Ragazzi responds to the work of the artist writing a text which is itself a collage. The arrest of a woman who joined the Italian terrorist group Brigate Rosse is narrated through excerpts from Carlo Emilio Gadda, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Giorgio de Chirico, Vito Acconci and others.
